Gardener

We are seeking to recruit an enthusiastic and dedicated skilled individual to join our team as a Gardener.

We are a 550-acre site in the Cotswolds waterpark with private residences, communal areas, Polly tunnel, small orchard, Allotment, 10 lakes and rolling nature reserve, we are heavily focused on ecology and stive to deliver a well-kept environment embracing the native wildlife for our residents and guests to enjoy. The successful candidate will work with our in-house gardening team to ensure properties are well presented and tended to on a regular basis

Applicants must have relevant horticultural qualification and proven experience as a gardener.

Salary £25750.40
Hours 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday 07:30 am – 4:30 pm

Responsibilities

Tasks will vary on a daily basis and will include assisting the Gardening Team with the following:

  • Weeding, digging, propagation and cultivation, Topiary, forking, mulching, watering, raking, edging, pruning, bed preparation and maintenance, pest and disease identification, mowing, irrigation installation, plant health monitoring, composting, record keeping, litter picking, maintenance of planters and hanging baskets, planting, hedge-cutting
  • The use of hand tools and basic light machinery such as mowers, strimmer’s, hedge-cutters, chainsaws, and leaf blowers
  • The use of the estate vehicles including RTV and ATV’s
  • To inspect the estate vehicles on a weekly and monthly basis to ensure that all are operationally sound and maintained in accordance with the maintenance schedule and inspection sheets.
  • To be aware of Health and Safety procedures and requirements, noting that all duties must be carried out to comply with current Health and Safety at Work legislation.
  • To ensure all equipment, machinery, and buildings are safely secure.
  • To keep the canteen, drying room and tool shed clean and tidy.
  • To keep all tools and equipment clean and in good order, reporting any defects or repairs required to the Head Groundsman
  • To be aware of and report any security risks posed within the estate.
  • To apply herbicides where appropriate under direction from the Gardening team leader
  • To keep the courtyards, planted areas, thoroughfares, footpaths, Estate tracks, and any other areas of the Estate clear and free from litter at all times
  • To work in line with the Ecology plan as laid out by Habitat First Group and Ecologist
  • To carry out your work to the highest level possible maintaining a sense of professionalism at all times whilst working on the estate.
  • To communicate with colleagues, contractors, homeowners, and guests of the estate in a respectful and professional manner at all times.
  • To report any defect or Health and Safety concerns, no matter what its nature to the Head Groundsman and in their absence, Gardening Team Leader Manager.

Essential Requirements

  • Recognised Horticultural qualification
  • Minimum 2 years experience
  • A keen eye for detail for maintaining the appearance of gardens and landscapes
  • Good plant knowledge specifically UK native species
  • Physically fit
  • Highly motivated & dedicated individual
  • Excellent communication with colleagues, guests and homeowners

Desirable Requirements

  • Chainsaw or pole pruner certification
  • Health & safety – knowledge of Safe Practices of work
  • PA1, PA6/PA6AW
  • Ride on mower certificate
  • EV/ATV qualifications
