Senior Finance Assistant

The post holder will be part of a team who are responsible for financial advice, information and other financial input (e.g. business planning, budgeting, service level agreements, costing and market testing) to a range of services.

This role is a key support to the finance team with a variety of accounts working across a number of different companies. The role requires someone with solid accounting knowledge, the experience of using computerised accounts software (Microsoft Dynamics & Sage 50 Accounts would be ideal), attention to detail, strong organisational skills and good communication. The work will involve working to tight deadlines and timescales for reporting and will suit someone able to work independently as well as part of a team.

Salary £35,000 - £40,000
Hours Full Time 35 hours per week

Key Responsibilities:

  • The work of the Senior Finance Assistant will cover the full spectrum of accounting and bookkeeping work including to trial balance all via computerised systems. We will require proficiency in the following areas:
  • Working with multiple companies and multiple locations
  • Monthly bank and balance sheet reconciliations
  • VAT returns
  • Accruals and prepayments
  • Posting monthly journals as required
  • Intercompany transfers
  • Monthly sales invoicing as directed
  • Sales Ledger control – raising invoices, chasing payments and liaising with customers
  • Reconciliation – using a bespoke reservation system to banks/credit card payments
  • Assisting the finance team in ad hoc tasks/projects
  • Preparation of individual Management Accounts & issuing to Senior Managers
  • Coordinating monthly P&L performance review meetings with the Operations
  • Updating the fixed asset register monthly and posting depreciation journals as appropriate

Accounting Skills, Experience and Knowledge

  • Proven experience of working in a similar role
  • Solid accounting/book keeping experience through to trial balance level and beyond
  • Financial experience using accounting systems (Microsoft Dynamics & Sage preferred)
  • Minimum 3 years practical accounting experience within a group or working with multiple companies
  • Self-motivated and focussed
  • Competent of using Microsoft Office
  • High level Microsoft Excel to include formulas, sums, vlookups, filters etc
  • Knowledge of pivot tables and sumifs would be beneficial but not essential
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ideally AAT level 4 or beyond
  • Flexibility
  • Excellent administration and organisational skills
  • Amazing communication skills – both verbal and written, with a great telephone manner
